The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree prepares students for careers in their chosen artistic discipline or for succeeding in graduate programs in fine and design arts. PNCA’s curriculum features an intensive studio experience, beginning with a grounding in basic techniques, progressing through periods of innovation and critical study, and culminating in the development of an independent style. During their first year, students take foundation courses which provide the depth of understanding necessary for critical thinking and creative expression. Liberal Arts courses balance the program with cultural and historical offerings, while providing the basic requirements for the BFA degree.

The BFA in Crafts is a professional degree program for students planning to make a living in the arts. The BFA in Crafts is for students who have the goal of becoming working artists, and who value the broader education provided by liberal arts courses. This four-year program is designed to provide the skills and technical knowledge students need to follow their professional aspirations upon completion of the degree. This includes preparation for studio practice, making a business out of studio work, getting involved in community arts activities and graduate school. In all cases, students are trained and encouraged to continue producing artwork following completion of the program.

Along with exceptional academic instruction, programs at the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM), the oldest accredited naturopathic college in North America, offer unique clinical experiences caring for underserved populations. Students are drawn to the warm, accepting and supportive culture at NCNM, which is reflected in Portland, Oregon’s surrounding physical and social environment. In addition to offering one of only a few available programs in Classical Chinese Medicine, instruction at NCNM is surprisingly more affordable than most Naturopathic Schools and Chinese Medicine Schools in the country.

The Montessori Institute Northwest was founded in 1979 to meet the urgent need for Montessori teacher education in the Pacific Northwest. Since then, the Institute has served as a hub of activity within the Montessori community. Teacher education, parent education, continuing education seminars and workshops, and professional development are among the many services the Institute offers regularly.
